That was a really, really good day.

Slow morning start. Didn't do much until about 10, when I decided to take my meds and go to Mickey Ds. In the drive through, I got my APPROVAL LETTER FOR MY THIRD MMCC KIT!!! EEEE!!!

No fix list! I have the first approved Post Imperial Master kit! It's approved and I'm going to be able to troop in it for May 4th!! I have bragging rights forever!

So that delayed the rest of my day while I texted absolutely everyone who might care about that. By the time I was done freaking out, it was time to go to the college for my appointment filling out the FAFSA. Not great but I'm glad it's done and the guy who helped me was lovely. Before heading home I picked up some leather dye.

Got home, and discovered my amazon package came! New shoes and 9 volt battery holders! So I dyed the belt loops for my new holsters, did a few finishing touches on my flak vest, and upgraded my helmet fan. Then went to get celebratory Approval Tacos with Cyare. We had a nice night, and I did some work on my big final accounting project.

And Andor season 2 is tomorrow. Things are great- that was such a kickass day. Currently procrastinating going to bed because I don't want this epic day to end.

Leaving this daily journal public because I want the day my PI Master kit got approved on blast for all to see!!

Mandalorians understand loving without attachment just as well as Jedi do.

Hear me out on this. Mandalorians are a culture built around the inevitability and awareness of death. The concepts of Shereshoy and Aay'han are the most obvious examples- shereshoy because the present moment is all you really have, so make the most of it, enjoy it, cherish it. You live your life one day, one hour, one moment at a time. Aay'han, because love and grief are two sides of the same coin- the people you love will someday be gone, but the people you have lost will always be present in those you love.

The idea of the Manda itself, although I'm sure most mando'ade don't believe in it literally, is also based around accepting and even embracing loss. Whether or not you think that when you die your soul joins into a sort of cultural oversoul or not, or whether you think it's figurative but basically true, or whether you think it's nothing but a philosophical representation of your memory 'living' on, the concept requires acceptance of death. And it's really extremely similar to the Jedi belief in the Force as an afterlife.

The dead are ever-present in mandalorian culture. You probably wear at least one piece of armor from someone you loved and lost. You probably say the names of people who have died every day. I am alive, and you are dead- I remember you, so you are eternal.

Suy cuy'gar. So you are still here- what a pleasant surprise! Ret'urcye mhi. Maybe we will embrace again, my friend.

At every turn, in their armor, in their spiritual practices, in their greetings and goodbyes, mando'ade face and embrace the inevitability of death, and they love more intensely for it. This is finally the point where mandos and jetiise diverge on the topic- You are going to lose the people that you love. What are you going to do about it?

Jedi, who have reality-bending magic powers, prepare themselves for calm acceptance. They get philosophical about it, and surrender what they cannot control to the will of the Force. Exactly as you should if you have the power to kill somebody with your mind. Mandos are... somewhat less likely to take it calmly. Although, I do believe that in general, they are a lot less likely to completely lose it than the casual observer might expect. Death is a part of life- of course a painful, aching part, but it's not like it was a surprise. Shereshoy- tomorrow isn't promised.

Writing a conversation between a mando and a Jedi about this would be really interesting. Or there's always just Bardan, especially when he's basically a walking identity crisis and is trying to figure things out.

I've already made a tumblr post about this but I want to talk about it again on a website where I don't have to worry about phrasing things in a way that I'm okay with getting spread around to dozens, possibly hundreds, of strangers.

The fandom pretty much agrees that the animated clone model looks absolutely nothing like Temuera Morrison, who is a Maori man, and the clones look like pretty generic White Guys. I agree with this, and it's especially egregious with the bad batch, who bear basically no resemblance to the clone model, and certainly none to Tem.

The animated model has straight hair with the exception of some cadets clearly based off of Daniel Logan, who has wavy hair. Temuera Morrison has very curly hair. (See tumblr post for a couple pics from one of the few movies he grew his hair out for.) The animated model is very angular, while Tem has a rounder face shape and features.

For years the tumblr fandom has been aggressive and accusatory about fanartists whitewashing the clones. I think this is a problem for several reasons.

1- Bringing attention to the fact that a professional animation studio creating models for one of the biggest media corporations in existence did a shit-awful job at representing a Maori man is different from getting after fanartists who want to draw their blorbos. Of course fanartists should think about this too, but it's different. You should not attack individual people in the same way you would attack a company.

2- A lot of fanartists are young, probably teenagers, who don't have a wide base of artistic expertise yet. They have a comfort zone and have not stepped outside of it. They probably haven't thought of going back to use the Jango Fett actor as a reference instead of just referencing the characters they are drawing. This isn't a moral failing and everybody needs to stop acting like it is.

3- What has ended up happening is that the fandom has created a culture of fear where you had better make it CLEAR that when you're drawing a clone, you are not drawing a white man. The fandom has failed to motivate people to draw Temuera Morrison. So long as you are not drawing A White Man.

And this has created a strange phenomenon where people will draw the clones with a significantly darker skin tone than Tem has. His skin tone, depending on how much sun he's had lately, varies from quite pale to a warm medium tan. I've seen fanartists drawing the clones as black, complete with a delineating line where their palms are light. Drawing a Maori man as a black man isn't as progressively inclusive as everyone seems to think it is.

I keep seeing people bemoaning the 'loss of melanin' specifically- especially with Echo, who, sure, looks like a damn ghost now, but with all the clones in general. The animated model skin tone is not the problem. These are men who grew up on a planet with like 8 days of sunlight out of the whole year and they were inside for those 8 days anyways. They live in armor. They aren't getting tan. The melanin is not the issue.

Especially wild is when I see skin tones that are darker than Tem has ever had, but they leave the hair... straight. Or give the clones loose fluffy wavy curls.

And I feel very confident in saying that fanart of clones who just sort of look like if you race-bent the animation model to be black (in the more extreme examples of this) is a result of fandom witch-hunt fear culture. Fanartists feel like if they don't make it clear that they are Not Drawing A White Man they'll get cancelled. So they draw A POC Man but don't really bother actually looking at Temuera Morrison.

Just... either draw Temuera Morrison or draw the animated model. Stop inventing a third guy that doesn't look like either. And I'm not going to cite some Moral Impetus or guilt trip anybody- which is exactly the sort of shit you get on tumblr and exactly the kind of thing that got us to this point in the first place. Draw either Tem or the animated model for me, because the third guy annoys me.

many people recognize not love itself, but the frame we build around it
they look not for new growth and running sap in golden sun
but for the trellises and garden beds and neat rows marked by seed-packet-signs
so when your love was not bought at lowe's and planted and watered
but instead sprouted like two trees in a quiet shadowed patch behind the fence
they look past it and only see wild scenery that they cannot harvest
and you, looking in at the garden, lament your wide trunk and lack of flowers
while you shelter and are sheltered from the winds by the sapling beside you

Hello! You may probably know me as Mamuzzy or Ordo-Core in other platforms. You can call me Zee.

─── ・ Transman (30) trying to find a quiet corner for himself to just exist.

─── ・ Current interest is Republic Commando (lasting for years now), I love the books with all my heart, and I would gladly chat with people with the same interest! I have lots of thoughts and simply too much love to share for the characters, especially Kal Skirata and Ordo Skirata.

─── ・Sometimes my Touken Ranbu fanatism re-emerges: ELEG4NT for life. Kasen Kanesada, Nikkari Aoe, Souza Samonji and Hachisuka Kotetsu are my life and blood.

─── ・ I'm creating fanarts and fanfictions and sometimes character studies. My art is more humor and general themed, while my fics are tend to be more angsty, and I love hurt/comfort. Sometimes I write or draw for ships too, but I'm not inspired for those these days.

─── ・My more general interests are history, art history and psychology. I enjoy non-fiction books. I have love for Japanese culture, Prussia in the 18th century, I'm interested in military and the topics related to dictatorships.

─── ・I love playing videogames, gamer since the early 2000's.

─── ・Anime/manga fan: Touken Ranbu, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Aku no Hana. Still waiting for a proper Litchi Hikari Club anime adaptation. Ito Junji fan. My conscious anime journey started with Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan back in the early 2000's so I love unhinged stuff. :D I have no idea what are the today's trend in anime series, I don't follow popular titles.

─── ・I'm with personality disorders it affects all part of my life, including the social one. Especially the social one. My interest in psychology is about finding healthy self-care methods and more healthier emotional distress handling. I'm generally fascinated by the machinations of the brain.

─── ・Probably will share personal stuff too

─── ・Probably planning to make restrictred access for certain posts.

I'm still trying to figure it out how this site works.

You see, I don't really care for authors. When I see a bookcover that grab my interest, or a story description I'm reading, my first instinct is not deep-diving into the author's biography to find out if this person is "socially acceptable to read". With this mindset I read Republic Commando and I avoided social media while doing so. In this way my judgment wasn't clouded by outside's influence - I could actually enjoy the books as it is.

I fell in love with Darman. I fell in love with that "sergeant" they always talked about and he wasn't even present in Hard Contact. I fell in love with Etain, I fell in love with Ordo, I fell in love with all the Nulls. I fell in love in this broken family of broken people trying to survive in a world that is not accepting them.

I fell in love with the fact that this book understood me in a way no living person could.

The RepComm tumblr community made me bitter with all those dni-s and policing how should you engage with the books and what characters or ship are appropriate to love or hate. This drama is too much for me to handle.

I wish to find a community where I can share this love for Republic Commando without the drama.

Maybe this platform is more suitable for my lengthy character studies too.

The thing that the tumblr posts trying to convince people to comment on fic leave out is that if you read and comment on multiple of my fics I'm about ready to climb in your window yelling "DO YOU HAVE ANY REQUESTS??" and drop everything to open a word doc.

Fuck my job and college, my life's calling is to write fic and make art for the people who are nice to me.

✰ Kicks's Assorted Nonsense ✰
...If you know me from anywhere at this point, it's probably rishioutpost on tumblr. hello, it's me, now kix on dreamwidth...

✪ This journal will include both talking and making. I talk a lot and make a little, but am trying to make more again because wow! It feels wonderful to create things! Who would have thunk it! As for what that talking and making will be about...

✪ I'm on a Star Wars kick right now. Mostly Republic Commando, a bit of bastardized The Clone Wars, and with the second season of Andor on the horizon, the rebellion and original trilogy as a whole. Expect a lot of clones and rebels, with a side of Mandalorians.

✪ Fantasy, medieval history, animals of all descriptions, more manga than I remember most of the time (it has to be mentioned and activated in my memory like a sleeper agent phrase), except for Berserk, I am always thinking about Berserk

✪ My heart lives with the Southern Reach series (Jeff VanderMeer) and has for about six years now, but people who are really into it are few and far between, so I'll be here shouting at the wall sometimes. bear with me.

✪ A sprinkling of day-to-day happenings, travel, music I like, and film & video. These are protected more often than not, but I am happy to grant access to anyone curious.

✰ see you around
